Wednesday, October 6th

Class was shortened due to a half day schedule, so we tried to hit the ground running and get as much productive work done in our shortened class time. At the beginning of class, students had a period to free write about the quote, " I am quality, not quantity." On Tuesday, the students spent a majority of the class discussing statistics, including how statistics can impact one's identity. During this free writing period students were allowed the opportunity to express how they viewed themselves as being an individual and unique from a numerical system.

After the free writing period, some of the students shared their journal entries. We then broke up into four smaller groups and discussed how statistics impact students. This discussion took different directions within all the groups from college acceptance and academics to social concerns including teen pregrnancy and the interaction between youth and police, and how these can become unwanted labels.

We found out that the basketball coach from Penn State is interested in Tanisha's sports talent. She is beginning to look into the school and the type of academic and sports opportunities it has to offer her!
